Overview
Travel back through a thousand years of western Colorado history at the Museum of the West. Native American exhibits feature one of a kind prehistoric pottery from the Colorado Plateau, striking rock art panels from the Fremont and Ute peoples and numerous other Native American artifacts. In the Spanish gallery are treasures from the wreck of the El Matancero, a Spanish merchant ship that sank in 1741. Other Spanish Colonial artifacts include a Spanish cannon, armor and weapons. Walk into a re-creation of the pioneer town of Grand Junction with an old fashioned boardwalk and historical buildings of the day. The Western Investigations Team building has strange and unique artifacts from their archaeology excavations. Famous firearms from the Thrailkill collection include pistols from Kid Curry and Buffalo Bill.
