GJ Symphony hosts FREE concert in Lincoln Park
Join the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, Centennial Band and Talking Rhythms for the annual Wells Fargo Evening Under the Stars – a free concert at Lincoln Park on Saturday, August 23.
The evening festivities begin about 5:30 p.m. when the Symphony Guild members serve up their famous bratwursts, sauerkraut and hotdogs along with soft drinks, bottled water, popcorn and ice cream.
The music begins at 6:45 p.m. with the Centennial Band, followed by Talking Rhythms. Talking Rhythms, a new complementary organization of the Grand Junction Musical Arts Association, has a mission to educate, entertain, and share culture through rhythm-based performances and education. They have been a part of the GJSO’s Springfest for the past five years, and are a great addition to this family event.
The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, under the masterful direction of Music Director and Conductor Kirk Gustafson, will take the stage about 7:30 p.m.
“It’s become very much a tradition for us, as well as for the community, to experience the music and an evening under the stars,” said Wells Fargo Community Bank President Steve Irion. “We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to sponsor this event again this year and to give back to the community that has been so good to us.”
Wells Fargo Bank has underwritten the free concert for many years, and without their generous support again this year the GJSO would not be able to continue this tradition.
People attending the concert are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the Guild’s refreshments, or bring a picnic basket to this family-friendly outdoor musical event. “The annual Wells Fargo Evening Under the Stars concert is a great way to kick off the GJSO’s 2008-2009 Season with this year’s theme: American Dreams…” stated Kirk Gustafson, Music Director for the symphony. “Bring your blanket or a chair, and join us for this family event.”
The Evening Under the Stars concert marks the beginning of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra’s 31st Season.
